All students are required to complete 18 hours listed above and choose a secondary core from the list below to complete a total of 36 hours.

Professional Teaching Core (18 Hours): Students may request a course substitution for all tracks except for Mathematics. The course substitution form is available in the Graduate Studies Office. All substitutions are subject to approval of the Dean of the University. Courses are approved for a specific standard; a student must successfully complete coursework in at least four (4) of the five (5) following standards:

  1. Content knowledge
  2. Planning and preparing for instruction
  3. Delivery of instruction that meets multiple learning needs of students
  4. Monitoring and assessment
  5. Individual and classroom management

Political Science Core (18 Hours): Students who wish to focus their graduate studies on Political Science may choose to replace the Professional Teaching Core with the following courses in Political Science.

Mathematics Core (18 Hours): Students who wish to focus their graduate studies on Mathematics may choose to replace the Professional Teaching Core with the following courses in Mathematics:

Athletic Administration Core (18 Hours): Students who wish to focus their graduate studies on Athletic Administration may choose to replace the Professional Teaching Core with the following courses in Education and Psychology. Students electing the Athletic Administration Emphasis must also complete the 18 hour Professional Foundation Core that is required of all M.Ed. students.

Special Education Core (18 Hours): Students who wish to focus their graduate studies in the area of Special Education may choose to replace the Professional Teaching Core with the following courses in Special Education. Students electing this emphasis must also complete the 18 hour Professional Foundation Core, which is required of all M.Ed. students.

Students selecting this emphasis must also complete the 18 hour Professional Foundation Core that is required of all M.Ed. students.

Students selecting this emphasis must also complete the 18 hour Professional Foundation Core that is required of all M.Ed. students.
